France 2019 - Day 3: Caen, Normandy

Breakfast at the local farmer's market, then 15 minute walk to La Gare Caen to meet our guides for a day tour of Normandy. Met two delightful young people (our guides), Lena and Maxime.

30 minute drive to Normandy where we visited Pointe du Hoc to view the cliffs which where scaled by the US Rangers on D-day. The photo below is a sculpture of a dagger used by the Rangers to scale the cliff:



Then on to Utah beach and shortly thereafter to the American Cemetery that some may remember seeing in "Saving Private Ryan".

 

Back in the van to Caen and returned to hotel. Then to dinner where we had a great time conversing with my newest favorite waiter, Phelipe.

Altogether a fantastic day!
